The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested nine Treasury officials in connection with investigations into alleged financial irregularities involving KSh15.7 billion.
The officials were arrested as investigators intensified their probe into suspected corruption and abuse of office within the National Treasury.
According to the allegations under investigation, the suspected irregularities involve public funds and transactions that raised concerns among anti-corruption authorities.
The arrests mark a major development in the ongoing investigation, with the EACC expected to question the suspects and gather more evidence before the case proceeds to the next stage.
The commission has been stepping up investigations into suspected misuse of public resources, particularly cases involving large sums of government money.
The latest arrests are likely to attract significant public attention because of the huge amount involved and the officials' positions within the Treasury.
EACC investigations are continuing, and the suspects will be dealt with according to the law as investigators establish whether criminal offences were committed.
The development has once again renewed calls for stronger accountability and proper management of public funds, especially within government institutions responsible for handling taxpayers' money.
